The beginning of the great sell off of 2014.

Postby mylesgm » Wed May 07, 2014 3:41 pm

I'm cleaning, downsizing and getting leaner. I also have some stuff to sell, aha! I've edited the list below so that only the for sale stuff is in the first post...

2x SYT28 valve SDC with cardioid, Omni and Hyper capsules, no clips. Known under several monikers (and with different headshell designs), these are made by the shuaiyin factory and were direct imported by me. These have been with me for several years and are kind of a poor mans C-28. I've used them on a variety of sources including harp, violin, string sections, jazz drums etc. with excellent results and I'm only selling because they don't really compare to my vintage m582s (which is to be expected). $375 for the PAIR! SOLD

UREI la12 stereo comp with the excellent peak/average detector for altering the response of the compressor. very underrated units and can be used on vocals, through to the mix buss. $900

Neve Kelso preamp and line driver. 70db gain, 2 band eq and hipass filter replicating the full signal path of the kelso from mic through buss out. Not sure I want to sell this as how else are you going to get a real neve channel strip for less than 4k? Once again this is the real deal, original modules, original transformers and sounding exactly like it should. $3000

SPL MTC monitor controller. These are great! neutral sounding, lots of options and a good sounding headphone amp. With talkback, cue mix etc etc. perfect for a project studio or a non-desk studio. I replaced the knob (not the pot) with a lovely old bakelite unit and will change it back if you don't want that but I think it looks and feels much better this way and for something you use all the time that matters. $800

Gyraf G9 two channel DIY valve mic pre built by me and then worked over by a professional tech (can't be too careful with high voltage valve gear). This sounds great, looks great has a great DI as well as the mic amps and wouldn't be leaving my hands except I have 3… OEP input and output txs, NOS valves and cool engraved front panel. $1000

a pair of ADM 1540 eqs, vintage units with 4 bands of stepped inductor eq. 3 points top and bottom, 4 points on the mids. I'll even throw in output transformers to balance the units. $200 each! ON HOLD

Pairs 3 band eqs custom designed and built by Deane Jensen of Jensen Transformers for a 70's band called Up With People. I bought them from Indigo Ranch (!) where they had a console full of these on Protools returns. I've a few pairs left over after parting out the console and racking a lot of the modules. I want the remaining ones out to a good home so $100 per pair!

Yes there will be rack gear, just not sure what yet. Preamps, comps, etc... If you are looking for a particular thing let me know and maybe that will be how I choose what to sell!

The one thing I'd pony up for is a nice silky EQ.

Stereo by good but mono be fine.

Thx

possible things coming up for sale FYI, nothing is definitely going yet but if something grabs your fancy send me a reasonable offer...

NTI 4 channel mic pre with air eq and Jensen input transformers. amazing sounding unit and they are now selling the 500 single channels at $995!

Vintage LA4 pair with updated opamps, new optos, new VUs, looks and sounds great. Doubt you'll find a better unit.

stereo G9, hand built valve mic pre built from Gyraf pcb and schematics. Sounds excellent but I probably don't need three. 2ru

stereo auditronics 501 channel strips from Francis Ford Coppola's studio(!). racked in 2ru by Barney Loveland.

stereo urei la-12 comp, with variable peak to RMS mode. Excellent sounding unit, very underrated.

2x Ward Beck EQs, 2x Ward Beck Comp/limiters in a custom lunchbox. Comps need calibration and servicing though all modules pass signal and the EQs are working perfectly.

doubtful but if the right offer/trade came along… I'm looking for mics and/or something really special.

Neve 2254 diy stereo comp.
Stereo Nite eq with air band, DIY in 1ru.
1176-2 DIY, I've got 1 stereo unit fully built and working beautifully and 1 stereo unit built but not cased.
quad neve 3415 mic pre. All original components racked up by Barney Loveland. 2ru with the real mariner transformers, phantom etc.
Neve Kelso 3116 mic pre/eq with neve line amp. racked in 1ru with the real mairnair transformers phantom etc.

So a little family trouble a few weeks back and I kind of let the sale offers slide so here we go again. Don't want to sell everything in this kit (esp. the neves) so it will be first come first gone or make me an offer I don't understand or can't refuse. I am interested in trades for high end mics. and will add cash if necessary for the right units.

UREI La4 pair, a better example you will not find, NOS optos, updated opamps and sounding very sweet indeed. $1200 SOLD

UREI la12 stereo comp with the excellent peak/average detector for altering the response of the compressor. very underrated units and can be used on vocals, through to the mix buss. $900

Neve 3405 4x mic preamps. these are the real deal with mariner transformers, discrete and punchy! Racked and recapped by Barney Loveland and sounding like Neves should. No clones, no copies, no bodges. $3000 SOLD

Hey Myles,

How's it going? Lukas here. I have an analog studio in Collingwood near PBS.

What's the deal with the Neve 2254 clone and the ward beck racked modules? If you could send photos and maybe provide some insight to what was used in the neve clone that would be aweosme. that is hoping they are still available!

Thanks!

Haven't got my hands on the WB yet, still in storage and I think I'll hold onto the 2254 for now.... The WB has 2x 462b fully parametric eqs and 2x 466 comp/limiters in a custom lunchbox/road case. The eqs are perfect and as flexible an eq as you can find and the comps pass signal but need calibration and recapping to bring them into action. When working these things are awesome.

And I forgot to mention I have all the documentation, schematics, and service manuals for the WB so a bit of reading up and some elbow grease and know how and these will be humming like new.

This is a very cool meter bridge. 2 huge VUs and a smaller third one showing mono or phase correlation. Lots of options for metering plus a small onboard stereo power amp for headphones and to drive a pair of speakers too. Lots of input options too, balanced/unbalanced, hi/lo impedance etc. Looks great too! $300 SOLD

IMG_2804.jpg
IMG_2802.jpg

Another I'm not sure I want to sell but I've got another sitting in a box… This is a brilliant 1176-2 pcbs stuffed with top shelf components and tested by MNATS himself and then racked up by me and Barney Loveland. Really superb sounding unit with lundahl txs on i/o, acts like a 1176 with a slightly more hifi sound. won't take less than $1200 SOLD

Dammit that meter bridge was exactly what I was looking for! Any idea what the model or brand name was myles or a custom job?
& the 2-1176, are the channels linkable?

cheers

hi Dave, it looks like a broadcast device to me, a Practel audio monitor bridge. Phil

Phil is correct. The 1176 is not linked currently but that can be added. I don't use it stereo much and when I do I just use a test tone to set it up and off we go. Just tested it and it is sounding superb, might change my mind on it so be quick...
