So I've just been bitten by this stupid issue:
https://www.gearslutz.com/board/geekslu ... nough.html
My Apogee branded DB25 cable male connectors have "securing pins" (whatever you call those 2 nubbins on the outer edges of the DB25 connector) that are too short to grip into the SSL X-Desk female DB25 connector threads, and they're probably the wrong thread anyway.
My soldering skills aren't good enough to swap the connectors on the cable, so, other than new cables, any other bright ideas?
I could probably do with some shorter cables anyway. Gareth put a call out for some recently, and probably snapped them all up, but anyone got any shortish DB25s (say, 1M), or a line on who can put some nice ones together?

Are the shells moulded or screw together? If screw together you could likely replace the screws that secure the connector into the socket.

You used to be able to get threaded hex rod at computer shops (M one end / F the other) - these work as an extender..... but Andy's idea is better

Thanks guys.
Found some additional pins in the SSL box, which was a nice surprise, and the Apogee DB25 connector shells happily have screws, so looks like I can make this work.
Time to roll up the sleeves...

Re: DB25 "Securing Pins" Not Long Enough / Shorter DB25 Cabl
Thanks Gareth.
Yes, please pass my details to Gary, or vice versa. I should be doing "final" setup on the studio this weekend, and will work out how many custom cables I need then.
ps : If you ever need 16+ extra channels of super clean SSL for a project if you run out on the big Neve just let me know. Easy to carry as the desk is almost lighter than the 5 DB25s hanging off the back!

Re: DB25 "Securing Pins" Not Long Enough / Shorter DB25 Cabl
Quick follow up for the record, in case anyone searches this here forum for DB25 solutions.
All my DB25 metal connector "shells", from three different manufactures, were held together by two screws. Loosening these slightly allows the threaded securing pins to pop out, so they can be replaced with longer ones, care of the thoughtful chaps at SSL that included some with my X-Desk.
Cake!
