Smallest possible amp to run NS10's

Guys, i'm downsizing and can't help but notice 2ru being eaten up by an amp for my NS10's (alesis ra100)
Is there a super small solution that i can drop on my desktop to power these? The smaller the better!

If not, what's a good compact studio monitor that very very sounds similar? I've got dynaudio bm5a's that sound radically different.

I have been pondering something similar myself - the RA100 that I have is noisy as hell and big and clunky.

How powerful an amp do NS10's actually need?
They are only rated at 25w from memory.

I am almost considering building my own.

Some of the options I have been pondering are the pair of JLM amp kits - 60watts each

Those RA100s are terrible sounding amps!!!
If you ever get a chance to A-B with a decent amp and your jaw will hit the floor (at how woeful they are)
On NS10's - astonishingly bad!
Do yourselves a favour - get rid of the RA100 for ANY sized amp!

One of the better amps around that are very compact are the Hypex class D amps. They are available in modules with all you need for DIY, and have had rave reviews from quite a few mastering engineers os.

Give them heaps! - Ive seen them with 200w per side.
(IMO they need at least 75w per side)

Most big studios that have them as nearfields - run huge wattage amps.

Exactly what Chris said. Give them heaps of juice! Unfortunately that generally doesn't mean something small in size...

I've run them with a one rack unit hafler P1000. Plenty of power and headroom with no clipping problems.

+1 for Big Amp. Little amp + NS10 = meh. Big amp + NS10 = oh THAT'S why people use these things.

Having said that, the Hypex is a pretty big little amp. Barney might be able to chime in with his considerable experience with building them.

Been a while since I hooked up the hypex amps to the NS10s, wasn't a combo that sounded great to me at the time, I preferred a Perreaux 2000B with the NS10s. But I have been using UCD400HG amps for a while now and have a pair of UCD700HG with an analogue PSU that is yet to be finished. I really dig them, lots of transient detail and depth. Took a while for them to grow on me, at one stage I had the Hypex UCD400HG, Perreaux, Bryston 4BST, Krell KSA50 mkII here. I liked something about all of them but for me at this stage Hypex is working for me.

The UCD34MP is a stereo amp and PSU all in one module and would fit the bill. Or you could get a pair of UCD400MP amp/PSU modules. Price is good and pretty simple to wire up.

Great, I'm just downsizing in general and I think that it's right that nothing is like a NS10, not that it matters I just found it the best monitor to place vocals, for me. Thanks for the links, Chris!
