F.S. AKG 712 pro headphones

Hi guys, bought these over the phone on recommendations as I live in Alice Springs and need a set of top cans to check my mixes (my room is crap).
Anyhow, after spending around 80 hours burning them in on prerecorded music and drum loops etc Im finding they aren't meshing with what I want to hear ; they are very au naturale and I need a bit more top end - could be something to do with my aged hearing!
The retailer won't take them back not even with a re-stocking fee as apparently it's a hygiene issue.
If anyone is interested they are in the high $700's rrp; I paid $550 last week and am cool to re-coup $400 plus $30 transport.
In mint condition with thoughtfully, both a straight and coiled lead inc. $430
