Yo!

Looking to flip my Aphex Compellor compressor/leveler.

Good cosmetic condition, but non-original knobs. For whatever reason my younger self couldn't stand the 80's looking ones that come on it so I replaced them at some point.

As far as I can tell, it's all pretty much working. Passes signal at matched levels, all the metering works and it all checks out. The only weird thing is that the output level control seems to jump up a fair bit right at the beginning of the pots travel. I don't know if this is how it's supposed be, but it does exactly the same thing on both channels so I think it would be quite the coincidence if it was a fault. Still fully usable. I've never used another one so I've got no idea if this is just how they are!

All that considered, I'm chasing $140.00. Pick up in Sydney city or I'll post at your expense.

Thanks gang,

NF.

can i just chuck in that you NONE of us has a plug in that does what this box does
and i paid $2200 for my first one 25 years ago we all thought they were magic machines once upon a time

the catch is they are kinda kooky to use so most everybody has decided to leave them turn off because
they seem strange and they get chucked out more then they get sold so nicks price is about right

they make everything louder then everything else all the time ( mostly )

tiny bit noisy if you work them too much .

great if you work ballads , nylon or any acoustic guitar really , pianos, girls that whisper more then they sing
.. that line of things .

if they still made a 500 rack version my bet is it would be a magical box all over again

I've got one and it's been in my rack for years. Had the 9000 series ones too and they are also excellent, don't know why Aphex gear gets such little love, maybe it's simply not hip enough or too unusual to understand quickly.

A plug in version of the Compellor is on my wishlist. I don't know if it could be done, or that anyone else would want it.
They have a million uses beyond the usual broadcast applications.
I have seen broadcast processing racks in more than one radio station equipped with the latest Omnias or Orbans that still use a Compellor as the first thing in the chain. Seen a few AM stations where a Compellor is the ONLY thing in the chain.
Still the best leveller you can find.
Cheers,
Paul
