Mix notes. recording templates.

I am just wondering if anyone knows of a program that takes mix notes, recording templates. Might be a long shot

At the moment I am using Excel and word and not doing a very good of maintaining an order of things.

If not maybe people could tell me their ways of taking notes and templates and it may be easier than what I am doing at the moment.

Not sure what DAW you're using, but one thing I've started doing again recently is using Logic's built in note pad facilities. I can type up nicely formatted notes at the project or track level, within the Logic project file itself, so they can never get lost.

I've been in the habit of using simple text files named the same as the project file, but I think I prefer keeping everything in Logic now.

One other thing I've done a couple of times is to actually record voice notes to myself, using the mic on the computer, and keeping these as (muted) audio files within the project as well. Nice! A 128 track 192 kHz 24 bit $5,000 dictaphone!

Logic's also got a very robust template system, and I'm building up a little set of useful starting point templates, channel strip settings, plugin presets, etc.

the talking into the project onto a track is a good one.

As is taking notes in the project

Also, photos with yer iPhone.

When talking, make the mimicking movements with one hand setting the knob or switch to where it says, you know pretend.. that way you will keep up with whats been recorded and not have to pause it or rewind

I just roll with text editor in OSX and digital photographs of outboard, etc - I stick them in a folder I name session notes in each protools session folder. I would love to see Protools incorporate a note pad/photo function... but at the end of the day, the most important part is being disciplined enough to make the notes, take the photos and file them correctly.

On longer mix sessions I use recall sheets for outboard (supplied by most gear manufacturers) with some extra written notes. Pop them in a manilla folder.
In Pootools you can also use the "comments" section in the mix window.

Note section on PT and for outboard I film all the gear at the end of the mix with my dslr and upload it from the camera into the project folder.
