WTB: An OOOOLLLLLDD Pro Tools System or Parts

Postby Sammas » Sat Nov 14, 2015 3:23 pm

Hey Everyone,

I am chasing an old Pro Tools system, either complete or parts. None of the Protools HD or Protools Mix rubbish either :p

Perhaps you have any of the following kicking around somewhere?

Audiomedia I
Audiomedia II
Samplecell I
Samplecell II
Sound Accelerator I
Sound Accelerator II

...or possibly a NuBus Disk I/O + Farm card system.

I'm almost certain I can get my hands on a Digi001 with the PCI card, if that helps?

Hey Andrew! Thanks for the offer, but I am chasing an earlier system than the 001. :)

Hey John! The only chips I am looking for are the salted variety ;)

I want them to run Turbosynth! I don't know if you are familiar with it? I only learnt about it a few months back after finding a G4 'soundflower' iMac in my parents shed and investigating uses for it. It is one of Apple's greatest design achievements if you ask me, right down to the included speakers and the dual boot OS 9.22/OSX 10.1 operating system that it came standard with.

I have been running Turbosynth 2.21 on it just fine under OS9 using the built in soundcard, but running it on a compatible DSP based protools system allows a bunch of extra processing to occur in real time and also adds a few extra processing modules to it - like a diffuser. Having an interface with some kind of digital I/O on it, even if it is just a 888 or something similar would speed up the workflow as well.

Actual documentation seems little thin about exactly what DSP hardware it needs to run, but I am pretty sure a Sound Accelerator II or Audiomedia II card will cover the DSP aspects, and a Samplecell card will add a bunch of midi functionality to it.

I know someone who has an original Protools rig, the first in fact. 4 tracks. Too old?

Hi Nath

Interesting !
I used to use Turbosynth in the late 80s ( i think..cant remember) running on Atari.
Macs were VERY expensive in those days.
Still using the Atari today...but i have a pile of macs still in the shed....
Oh...for the money back now i spent on them !

Cheers

My very first PT system was version 4 on an Audiomedia III.. I've never had a more rock solid system since.
