acoustic treatment advice

hola turtleheads!

hey where do studio peeps in the know get stuff like acoustic panels and diffusers and bass traps n stuff???

i've found some australian places online but by george they're expensive. they seem to be aimed at restaurants and the like but i'm not making a recording restaurant, i'm making a recording studio.

any advice would be great..... soz i'm not FSing or WTBing.

Maybe try John Sayers Forum? Some good ideas there I recall.
You can build some out of tontine acousticsorb etc, still ends up time consuming and kind of expensive but that's studio building..
You can cover it with fabric from a place called RIM fabrics in VIC, fairly cheap acoustically transparent cloth...

I have various GIK diffusers I will sell, how I ended up with so many I will never know...
They are unused..

Hey Gaz,

I can put you in contact with a guy who does professional sound treatment. He sells the unused panels very cheaply (relatively). He does a whole van worth for a few hundred dollars or there-abouts. I did my whole studio with them (Autex quietspace panles) and figured out good ways to mount them using bit and bobs from Bunnings. Whole job cost about $400. If you need any advice for a room I reckon I can help - spent a lot of time learning about it!

If ya wanna DIY I second daves advice and check out John Sayers forum to get some ideas
For absorption, corner traps etc I got a bunch of Absorb XHD 100

Im no Acoustician but it I reckon it works well and its not made of mineral rock or fiberglass or anything nasty
It cost me about $1200 plus some timber to get my 30m2 room sounding decent...considering it was a very narrow rectangle room with all surfaces concrete Im pretty happy with that

... Its a mother fucker to cut through so I'd say better for large absorption panels
but I managed to cut through it to make corner traps. I found an old dull backsaw to be the best for this

Being in Victoria Tontine acoustisorb 3 might be cheaper given freight costs but when I looked it was nearly double the price. Though the stuff I got may have gone up in price as they got bought out by CSR and I think i got the last batch before the transitioned

Dunno if you're still looking but,
I make a bunch of different acoustic treatments. Have treated a bunch of studios, big and small.
I made the diffusors that Phil has at your old digs
I can give you some proper advice and / or make you a bunch treatments, depending on your budget.

Hi mate where are you located? I have 4 large bass traps/resonators which I no longer need (studio I am in these days already treated)... I am located in Sydney if you are up this way... If you're interested I can send you some photos this weekend when I'm in the studio
