Logic Pro 8 Discount for Turtlerock Forum members - LOWER.
Hey all - for those who care Logic Pro 8 has just been launched.
Amongst it's features
- includes Sample Accurate editing in the arrange window - FINALLY
- it includes all JAM packs - 39 GB worth of loops/sounds
- various other cool bits and pieces
It is $649 !!! for the full version, and $249.00 for the upgrade - Yes this is Australian pricing.
*** Disclaimer *** My opinion will be biased as a result of my employment.

Do you know if the upgrade price is open to those of us still on Logic v.6? Yes, I do have a USB Xkey. And would you care to less slip the release date for OSX 10.5? I'm so getting myself a new iMac when that happens.

Hey Heres a tricky question
I'm still a PC user and don't plan to change soon
(I try top spend as little on computers and sound cards as possible cause its an endless cycle otherwise)
I'd prefer to save for a radar 24 - the less computer like my computer is the better
I own a legitimate version Vegas Pro but I decided it sounds crap with my sound card
this is not the case with other sound cards just mine
for some reason logic has a smoother top end I suspect because it uses Asio Drivers where as Vegas uses WDM drivers
But I can't buy a legitimate version of Logic for PC cause they don't sell em anymore
So maybe if any of you Logic uses would like to get rid of your legitimate version of Logic 5 (was that the last PC version?)
you might have a buyer cause I'd like to do the right thing.

Yes, the upgrade will work with Logic Pro 6.
Sorry - No Disclosure on the release date for Leopard ;-(
I would suggest that it may be worthwhile grabbing a machine with 10.4 on it, and then pay the upgrade to 10.5 after the dust settles.
I've been caught out twice waiting for upgrades to ProTools to enable it to run on new machines that have shipped with new OS's. Case in point is everyone *still* waiting for the upg to enable
Atmosphere to run on intel Mac's - it's due soon btw.

Man, they kept that one quiet. All I can say is.... finally... PLAYLISTS! Also glad to get rid of the dongle.
...but does it have to look so much like Garage Band???? Even if it kills Pro Tools we're never gonna hear the end of it from the Pro Tools Army.
As for the price, given that I paid full retail for Logic 5, 6 and 7.... will Steve Jobs give me a $100 store credit for dropping the price?
Smash... is Logic 8 exclusive to OS 10.5 or will it run on 10.4, and is it optimised for the quad and 8 core Mac Pro?

Given that it's available now, I'd say it works on 10.4. As for multi-proc, logic has always handled SMP well so I'll bet it could at least fill the quad.

Awww Thanks Guys...
Over the years I learnt heaps from this forum, and also from the old one - so organising a discount was the least I could do.
Hoping for stock to arrive either Mon or Tuesday.

I'm SOOOOOO glad I don't get my family to buy me the 6 -> 7.2 ($500+) upgrade for my birthday.
Smash, that $449 price is a real killer. Good on ya. Still keen to give you money for the upgrade, so call when you can.

2c FWIW...
I've been playing with LP8 all night... it's fantastic. Very smooth interface (I love the "non-floating" transport - that thing used to bug the hell out of me while editing) and, although a little garageband looking, it's still a VERY nice ui upgrade.
Everything appears to be working well, although I did have a hassle moving plugin windows once open... the background was moving but the plug ui itself would stay put... probably just a small bug that needs sorting.
The sound is (to my late night ears anyway) pretty much the same old logic sound. If you're used to it, you'll love it!
Nice to not need the dongle as well!!!!

smash - what a fantastic price!!
One question though - currently I run Logic Pro 7 on 2 machines and just swap the dongle.
With the upgrade do I have to give back the dongle thus effectively losing one machine? or do I need to buy the full version for functionality on two machines?
Or can I use the upgrade on both machines? Is that legal?
Does this make sense?
Actually that's five questions :-o

My understanding is that the upgrade is the FULL version, but you need a previous dongle or serial to install it.
My install worked fine on both my Mac Pro and MacBook Pro... although first time I tried to install on the MBP I was prompted to insert the LP7 dongle (it was still in the studio machine). Haven't heard if you're "allowed" to run two machines, but you "can" easily enough.
No notice anywhere to return dongle - in fact, LP7 remains intact on the machine (bar a couple of small pref changes listed in the install doc's) so you can run LP8 or LP7 at any time. I opened a couple of LP7 projects in LP8 and when saving was prompted to save a new "version" of the project.

Further to my last post... you can't run LP8 at the same time on more than one computer on the same network... tried it out for fun this afternoon - you get a copy protection message saying that another computer on the network is using a version of LP with the same serial number... your only option... a big healthy "quit" button at the end of the prompt. Standard I'm sure for most programs!
