I'm finally parting with my TAC Scorpion 16/8/2. I've loved this console and it has been very good to me. Every time I've contemplated selling it I've changed my mind - this is the first time I've actively put it on the market.

I bought this console off Myles Mumford around 9 years ago. I'm offering it up here before posting to the regular places in a couple of days.

Do your research, process the opinions etc etc… but in the end it's pretty simple - this is a great sounding, well-built console with heaps of features plus some very worthy improvements already made, with heaps of potential for more. 8 channels have been recapped and upgraded with the very highly regarded Langley line upgrade (with 5 more unfitted kits included). This mod lifts the Scorpion from sounding OK to exceptional - much more akin to the later Amek desks. You could convert more of the channels, or keep the (surprisingly good) mic channels as they are (there's also a Langley mic pre upgrade that is supposed to be excellent). Jim Williams (and others) also do a pretty straight forward upgrade to the master channel, although many people prefer to leave it the way it is. The details are out there if you search for them. So, plenty of options there.

Ongoing maintenance has been performed as required (hasn't needed much). The power supply was refurbished by Ross Giles. I've replaced approximately half of the faders with nice smooth brand new Alps units, and fitted new fader knobs (some photos might show it with the original knobs).

Fully modular and easy to work on. Also well supported by AML - lots of love and spare parts for this guy, can't say that about many vintage consoles.

The asking price of $1500 is considerably less than I have spent on getting it where it is.

Like any large console there will be the odd scratchy pot here and there - I'll go over everything and make notes for serious buyers, and answer any and all questions. And of course you'll want to go over it yourself. But please… I have no time whatsoever for tyre-kickers - sorry to be harsh but you need to work out if you're really in the market before looking. I won't respond to offers from people if I don't believe they're genuinely interested - again, not to be rude but I just don't have the time.

This is a lot of console for not much money - think of it as a 'small big console'. It measures around a metre square, and is a two-person lift - not crazy heavy, but hefty enough. It comes with a brilliant adjustable height stand that is not original but fits perfectly and looks great.

I'm really not keen to sell this guy, but at the moment it's being used as a very over-specced keyboard mixer, and I need to rationalise some things and make some room for others. As long as I've had the space, I've wanted to keep it - it's just a great console to build a studio around.
