Ah well that's where it's headed, everyone is a sound engineer after doing a protools course and buying a 002 or is it a 003 these days, wait, a Mbox with Digi pluggers.
Looks like I'm going to stop buying hardware and buy plugins.
But really how can you invest in buying a studio with killer outboard gear when the likes of Logic 8/Apogee and Digidesign are just flooding the market with operating systems that make recording so easy. I didn't say good, just easy.

Oops don't take it personally Tim.
What I mean is that most groups buy their own recording gear (low Fi) to make real deal records without the experience to produce the goods needed to make a record company take them seriously. OK for demos but not sellable CDs, the consumer suffers in the end. The experienced recording/producer/manager guys are closing up shop.
So what would I know....well I've got my boys right at the top of Sony's look at list. It's taken thousands of dollars and 2 years of recording, using the best gear I could get my hands on. Now it's up to the boys to get their act together, not Sony. The ride has been incredible and testing.

i know both the owners of the studios mentioned here A#sharp and Origami.
neither studio is for sale because they are out of work in fact origami is the
most booked studio i know of .
i have spoken to both owners at length about the sales and both said pretty much the same thing .

" we not making a fortune but things keep ticking over , however this is not what
i want to do for the rest of my life ."

so i think the fact that these studios are "for sale " and not just closed down is encouraging.

somebody will buy them , its just a matter of who and how much ?

To educate yourself, contact Jeff Cripps at A Sharp. You can do this through the website listed in my original post. I imagine that Jeff would appreciate genuine enquiries only.

I haven't spoken to him lately about his reasons for selling. However, viewed from where I sit, they aren't hard to figure out. Running a studio is demanding; of one's time, skills and resources. He's been doing it a long time and probably figures that he ought to be spending more time with his family. I also know that he's been doing more playing and gigging lately. I reckon he'd be enjoying that enormously. Paradoxically, because running a studio is about running a business, it can actually take you away from the music rather than towards it.

A Sharp can probably lay claim to being Sydney's oldest studio continously running from the one location. Not always as A Sharp, of course, as it existed at that location in previous incarnations. As far as I know, A Sharp has always been profitable. Certainly, Jeff has always maintained his gear well and hasn't hesitated about spending money when an unexpected equipment failure has occurred. He has also been one of the few to schedule routine maintenance of his gear. Both of these to me spell out that [a] the place is well-run and [b] it makes money.

The studio is large with a good air volume for capturing sounds. It deserves to find a buyer who can build on what is there and maybe take it in new directions.

The info I posted was an emailout that I received. I posted it here because I figure that he is serious about looking for a buyer and that this forum caters to people who may be more interested in such a purchase than the general public.

I'm sure that if anyone rings A Sharp and asks to speak to Jeff he would be happy to go through the terms of a deal. Tyre kicking may be another thing...

Yes, there is - you canstudy PT thru Soundbase Pro School @ UTS.. There are other places such as AFTRS and the like.
I'm sitting my 110 exam before enrolling to PT 201 which is in December.

Well Rick, I might possibly be able too :-)
My dad was a Fitter and Toolmaker from the days gone by.. then became an instructor in Craft Theory for the Navy..
He taught me to use a lathe and milling machine (I also did metalwork at school in ithe 80's) when I was younger..
