Advice on a good computer chair

Why is we are happy to spend $1,000's on audio gear but we end up sitting on pathetic poor support office chairs to do our work on all day (or in most cases all night)?
My new years resulotions is to buy a decent chair to sit on that provides good back support, no arms needed and great comfort.
Does anybody have any suggestions? I gather some of you have been down this road before and have hopefully succeeded.

I have a Herman Miller Areon Chair, it costs between $1200 and $1400

Well I didn't spend $1200 for a chair but I got one for about $450 and it's like a small airline seat with a full back and a head rest....the way to go, kick back and nod-off. You got to have a head rest for those long mixing nights.

I didn't even spend $200 and it *IS* an airline seat!

Ues I have cleaned up that room rather a lot since then, although I'm still unpacking since moving four months ago. In fact that's a Gefell PM750 on the tray table.

A couple of years ago I spent 6 months working in studio D at Westlake Studios in L.A. Every chair in the control room was an Aeron chair, I was in heaven. Some musicians didn't like having arms on the chairs though. I am slowly saving up for one for at home.

i have an aeron chair at my desk-job (local government) and experienced back pain for the first two months, because it actually made me sit properly!
now, it works great. it just took some getting used to . . .

at mfdu HQ, i vary - i alternate b/w a swiss ball, a low stool, and a low-back gas-lift swivel chair.

love the business class seating, though!!! i used to have a 1970's Ford limo, and the seats were white leather captains chairs (fully electric) - that'd be cool. mount one on rollers, fit 12VDC and bingo. damn i miss that car. but we got rid of it 'cause the worked 6 litre V8 was not the most economical of power stations . . .

yeah , make the commitment to your long suffering studio body , buy a herman miller aeron , you can order it with out the arms or they move about to suit what you need to do ( guitar playing , mouse clicking etc ) , they have a really long warranty ( i think its ten years) which means the three other chairs you break in the mean time will cost you the same .

the catch with the aeron chair is YOU must get one that is suited to your size and weight, other wise your wasting your $1300. so you really have to buy one new or know excactly what your doing

if i built a new studio it the first thing i would replace - no question



now julian its about that qantas 747 chair....how did you get that one passed your loved ones ...?

I got my chair from good ol' EBay..
Paid $22 for it (was worth over $450 new) and just got a new gas lifter that was 80cm instead of the standard 60cm. As I'm quite 6' tall, the extra height is a bonus.
All up it cost me $85.
Love the QANTAS business class setup - that's awesome!!

Good idea there, I'm a fat b*stard so I find most cheap gas struts are useless except fully up or fully down. My chair at my old job wasn't bad but kept getting nicked.
