Just Been to EnTech Show (Sydney)

Postby SteveL » Mon Feb 11, 2008 1:40 pm

I've just come back from the opening day of the EnTech Show (Entertainment Technology) at Darling Harbour in Sydney. If anyone else is heading there over the next few days, I just thought I'd post some impressions (free entry but you have to register either there or on line). Digidesign are there, plus mic companies such as AKG, Shure and CAD, and Mick from Mixmasters has a very tasty stand with a nice selection of AEA Ribbon mics, Avalon and Teletronix, plus a 24 channel Toft ATB desk. There's the usual focus mainly on front of house audio and lighting systems, but scattered around you can find Mogami cable and products, Radial DIs etc.

I was interested talking to the US Mackie rep who said they will be putting out a whole new line of the Onyx firewire series mixers this year (I have a 1620 with firewire card). Apparently the new desks will return all channels back to the mixer on the firewire buss, not just the stereo mix as at present, and eq will be switchable into the recording path.... unfortunately doesn't sound like the current desks though can be upgraded to the new specs...

Anyway, worth a couple of hours of my time and just thought I'd give the forum a heads-up that it started today if anyone's interested in sticking their head in.

Steve,
Thanks for the heads up.
I am going with some mates who have home studios on Wednesday.
I did post about this a while back but didnt get a response, so I thought no-one might be going.
It was mainly to tee up a meet and greet over a beer or 2 at the bar..
Thanks for the update.

I can't go. I've already bought too much gear this year. It would be like taking an alcoholic on a tour of a brewery.

I just picked up a Crowley & Tripp Naked Eye with Roswelite, a bunch of 500 series pre's from some mates in LA and my Euphonix MC Mix is due any minute..... literally, hurry up Fedex.

if the sight of masses of SAE and JMC kids bothers you i'd recommend taking a big stick to keep them away

Just wondering if they (M/masters) had any Studio Projects stuff on display, especially the new CS series mics.
